Additional conditions

  • You have to be at least 18 years of age on the day of the elections, i.e. 11 June 2023;
  • You have to register on the voters list. 

How to register?

In Luxembourg, local elections are held every 6 years. In order to participate you must be registered on the voters list. If you live in Luxembourg, but do not have citizenship, you can register to vote online, or at the municipal offices. 

The deadline to register before the next elections is Monday, 17 April 2023 at 17:00

What’s new in the electoral law

The revision of the electoral law will make it easier for non-Luxembourgish citizens to participate in the next local elections on 11 June 2023.

What are the main changes?

  • A minimum period of residence will no longer be required to be able to register on the voters list;
  • The deadline to register will be extended (the last day of registration for the next elections will be on 17 April 2023 at 17:00);
  • To become a candidate, you must be a resident of the municipality for at least 6 months.

(*) The new law has been adopted by Parliament on July 13th and should enter into force before autumn 2022.
